Baden Powell College operates two campuses the Derrimut Heath P-6 Campus in Hoppers Crossing, and the Tarneit P-9 Campus in Tarneit.

With the formation of the new Tarneit campus in 2007, we saw a name change from Derrimut Heath Primary School to Baden Powell College.

The College is named after Harold Llewellyn Baden Powell who had the ultimate respect for family values and education, as well as a wonderful commitment to his community.

The college community values education and shares a common vision of the future “Looking Forward, Staying Ahead”. It is committed to providing students with the skills, knowledge and values necessary to be effective members and leaders of our society. Our mission is “Educating our community through the provision of leading edge educational services, products and practices”.

1990s

Derrimut Heath Primary School (DHPS) was opened in 1992. The original Principal was Nal Manolakakis. Nal was the Principal from 1992 until his death in 1999. From 1999 an acting principal Ms Meg Lee was appointed until Ms Julie Mason took over in 2001.
In 1992 school originally consisted of a courtyard setting with classrooms positioned around it, an administration building also housing a large staff room, a gymnasium and a student toilet block. In
the next 10 years wyndhams population rapidly grew beyond predictions and put high strain on local schools most needing relocatable classrooms (portables). At times Derrimut Heath’s student enrolments were well in excess of 1000 students. This caused a Ceiling or Zone to be implemented.

2000s

In 2002 DHPS celebrated “10 years of quality education” producing lanyards, keyrings and stickers.

In years to come school Principal Julie Mason was awarded Principal of the year for her great community involvement and excellence as an educator.

Derrimut Heath primary school saw steady students numbers until around 2004 when enrolments started to drop from the high number of around 1000 to the 800’s and slowly back to the current enrolment of 500 at what is now the Derrimut Heath campus of Baden Powell College.

From around 2003/2004 the school welcomed suggestions considering whether it would be a sensible choice to make DHPS a prep to year 9 all in one campus environment in years to come. The Derrimut Heath Campus is yet to see this happen.

In 2006/2007 DHPS was offered to be in charge of a new purpose facility to cater for years Prep to Year 9 ready to be built in Tarneit. The school saw this as a fantastic opportunity to offer a rich environment of educational excellence. The school accepted the offer there for seeing significant changes. The school became a multi-campus environment catering for years prep to year 9.

As stated above the school was also renamed Baden Powell College and now operates using that name, while maintaining its Dual campus status with the Derrimut Heath Campus catering for years Prep-6 and the Tarneit Campus catering for years Prep-9.
