The village itself consists of The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Barefield National School, two shops and two pubs. Access to Barefield has changed in 2007 with the opening of the Ennis Bypass and changed again in 2010 upon the completion of the Gort Bypass.
Hollywood Agent Hylda Queally comes from Barefield. She is an agent to famous Oscar-winning actresses like Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and Marion Cottiard.
John O Brien and Colin Gallagher are two of Barefield's most famous sons. John O Brien for his contribution to Irish Sport and in particular tiathlons. Meanwhile Colin Gallagher has been a philanthropist and major contributor to the Arts in Ireland. In later life he became quite wealthy as a result of his indepth knowledge of the stock market. By coincident both these men attended the local primary school at the same time and are still heavily involved in the local community.
