Bargen has an area, , of 7.87 km² (3 sq mi). Of this area, 5.56 km² (2.1 sq mi) or 70.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while1.47 km² (0.567570173131027 sq mi) or 18.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.55 km² (0.212356187225894 sq mi) or 7.0% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.31 km² (0.119691669163686 sq mi) or 3.9% is either rivers or lakes.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 2.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.9%.. 17.4% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.3% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 64.2% is used for growing crops and 5.0% is pastures, while 1.5% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.
In the 2007 election the most popular party was SVP
which received 39.9% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS
(21%), the Green
