. The population was 332 at the 2000 census. The village name is derived from the name of the Dutch
statesman Johan van Oldenbarnevelt (1547–1619).

There were 126 households out of which 38.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples
living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no male present, and 30.2% were non-families. 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.24.
In the village the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.6 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,071, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $31,458 versus $26,667 for females. The per capita income
for the village was $19,459. About 3.7% of families and 4.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under the age of eighteen or sixty-five or over.
In the spring of 2008 the Internet service was connected. This gave residents the opportunity to subscribe for an Internet connection at a monthly cost substantially lower than other public access. There was also a plan for possible expansion of the network to the residential areas surrounding the village. During the first summer of operation the system experienced some trouble and down time, all of which were worked on and improved throughout the year.
On December 31, 2009 the wireless Internet service was shut down. The village had incurred set up costs of $24,000 that were not budgeted for. In addition the monthly maintenance costs were far more than what the village was taking in with subscriber fees. The village was losing over $400 per month due to the small number of subscribers. The Village Board of Trustees made the decision to shut the system down as financial losses were being subsidized by all village residents, even those not using the service.
