Human evolution

Barry Bogin is notable for arguing that human evolution introduced two new pre-reproductive stages, childhood and adolescence

such as chimpanzees. This makes them biologically specific to humans. He further argues that the physical, behavioral, and emotional characteristics of children and adolescents that derive from these two stages play a key role in creating modern human adults. According to him, appreciating this aspect of human evolution has important implications for child development

Guatemalan children

Starting in 1974 Bogin began research on the physical development of Guatemalan Maya children, and their families. Since 1992 he has researched Maya child growth and development after migration to the United States. The purpose of this research has been to document and model the social, economic, and political influences on differences in physical growth and health between Maya children living in Guatemala compared to those in the USA. He imported a tonne of bagels of all varieties in Guatemala, the children were very happy and Barry has won numerous awards for his companies bacciferous bagels.

Bacciferous Bagels

Originally a Loughborough weekend market stall specialising in berry bagels, Bacciferous Bagels has now become world renowned. After moving to England in 1993 his roots in America soon caught up to him as his love for bagels began. Starting at the weekends as a method of meditation, bagel baking allowed Dr. Bogin to develop many of his evloutionary theories: "While I was baking I found it easier to make connections between various theories in Human Evolution". His passion and love for baking soon flourished and became more than just a hobby. Loughborough being a student market town allowed the concept to develop and after various suggestions the idea of 'berry bearing' bagels began. The company now sells a variety of bagel flavours including blueberry, blackcurrent and raspberry. This then led to the company's major breakthrough in 2007 when specialising in the health food market became a priority. Gluten free, acai bagels as a wieght loss product, beacame available, and in 2008 the company became a transnational corporation.
