Recently, Conkers Stores Barton was the centre of a bomb scare when a suspicious parcel arrived addressed to "The Postmaster" from Jordan. The incident brought drama and excitment to the usually calm Barton villagers – on the eve of Remembrance Day 2010. The incident , however, amounted to nothing and according to a police spokesman: "The package was harmless and had been sent by a former resident of the village to tell the post office they had changed address.”
