. Kristine Marchiando, the school's principal since its inception, retired June 20, 2008. The Chandler Unified School District school board accepted Ken James, former Mesa School District Executive Director of Educational Services, as the new principal who took the helm on July 1, 2008.
Like Hamilton High School, Basha High also has a Branch of the Chandler Public Library that is integrated with the school itself, while Perry High School has a county library on their campus. Basha High School was named after Eddie Basha, Jr.
, who has made donations in the millions of dollars to the Chandler Unified School District and lives in the community.
Basha High School is noted for its academics, and it offers a large catalog of Advanced Placement classes, as well as an National Honor Society
chapter co-advised by Devon Christopher Adams and Erica Davis. It also has a notable speech and debate team that competes in National Forensic League
events. Basha's cheer team have been Arizona's state champion team for the past two consecutive years. The state title last year was won by them while also defeating their rival, the Hamilton Huskies. The Basha girls softball team has won 2 state titles (2008, 2009). The Basha Bears varsity football team advanced to the Arizona division I state semi-finals with a victory over Brophy on November 10, 2011. The Basha Bear Regiment won their first state championship in Division II in 2009 and the Indoor Percussion Ensemble won four consecutive state championships from 2007 through 2010.
