, Va. Initial Military Training (IMT) was created as a separate, stand-alone organization to maintain senior-level oversight of training related issues. IMT's intent is to motivate Soldiers to become dedicated, productive and qualify in warrior tasks. The knowledge and the training conducted during this period of time teaches Soldiers about the Army's place in a democratic society, inspires the warrior ethos and introduces the Army values.
DCG-IMT is the official command component responsible Army's Initial Entry Training (IET); which is commonly referred to as "Basic Training" or BCT for enlisted soldiers. The term "bootcamp" pertains to the Marine Corps. IMT develops policies to improve and standardize training for Basic Combat Training (BCT), Advanced Individual Training (AIT and One Station Unit Training (OSUT) and the second phase of the Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC)

IMT Mission
The official mission statement for IMT states:The Initial Military Training - Center of Excellence directs and assesses the training, education, and integration of new Soldiers into the Profession of Arms in order to ensure the appropriate level of standardization, relevance and rigor; to support ARFORGEN, and to ensure these Soldiers are prepared to contribute as a leader or member of a team upon arrival at their first units of assignment.
Commander's Intent:
In order to ensure IMT training is standardized, relevant and rigorous, and that IMT Soldiers are prepared to contribute to their first units of assignment, IMT must accomplish the following key tasks:
-Improve the quality of life and resilience of IMT Soldiers, families and civilians
-Direct the training and development of Soldiers and junior leaders
-Direct the training and development of IMT cadre
-Direct the development of and assess training and education (T&E)
