The Israelis entered the town on July 19, and for several days, fought Hezbollah and Amal fighters street-to-street. The battle was largely indecisive, with see-saw control of the village.

After-battle reports of Hezbollah commanders claimed the IDF troops never completely secured the border area and that Maroun al-Ras was never fully taken. However, the Israeli Army reported to have secured the village after several days of fierce combat, but that fighting never ended.
