region of Scotland
, north of the City of Glasgow
.
The district was formed by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973
from the areas of the burgh
s of Bearsden and Milngavie and part of Old Kilpatrick District, all in the county
of Dunbartonshire
. The council headquarters were in Bearsden.
In 1996 the district was abolished by the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994; its area was combined with most of that of Strathkelvin
district to form the East Dunbartonshire
unitary council area.
