The park comprises around 913 acres (369.5 ha) of upland forest, woodland and open country, and offers a range of amenities including outdoor pursuits, camping and caravanning site, sawmill, ranger service, deer farm, fishery and hilltop restaurant. In 2010 prehistoric remains were uncovered on the site of a planned visitor centre. To the west of the country park is Cockleroy (278 metres (912.1 ft)), which is topped by the remains of a prehistoric hillfort.
