s. In the fall of 2009, Beehive was accused of promoting and advancing Islam. However, after investigating for many months, the Utah Charter School Board cleared Beehive of the accusation that the school existed to advance and promote Islamic beliefs, but flagged it for poor financial management. The school was then the subject of a six-month investigation by the State Charter School Board of Utah for alleged financial misconduct, which was concluded on February 11, 2010 and resulted in the school being given one more chance. This, however, was short-lived, as the State Charter Board of Utah then proceeded to close BSTA. The Charter Board said, "Beehive doesn't have enough students to be financially viable and is burdened by debt." The vote to revoke the charter was 6–0. An appeal was filed by Principal Biyik on May 5, 2010 and will be heard by the Utah Board of Education. On May 6, approximately 50 students walked out of class at the first period in protest of a controversial decision made by the administration regarding the treatment of their teachers. The story was falsely reported by major news networks. On June 1, 2010, a 9-page article was published on Deseret News on the problems of Beehive, mostly criticizing the school instead of answering problems . The Utah Charter School Board reversed its decision to close Beehive Science and Technology Academy in Holladay as of June 2010, pending a probationary period; where Yavuz Durmus now serves as the "executive director" of the school.
