Following his first concert and stage experience as soprano soloist with the Boys' Choir of Wilten Monastery (Innsbruck), he studied voice at the Vienna Academy of Music under Helene Karusso and Kurt Equiluz
. He received further training from Karl-Heinz Jarius in Frankfurt
