. It is based on the life of Saiva devotee, Kannappa Nayanar
. The film is the remake of Kannada film Bedara Kannappa, the first film of legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar. Later it was also remade with some modifications as Shiva Mechchida Kannappa which is the original script for the Telugu one.
