, the village is famous for the muth- Shakatapura samsthanam.There are many villages sorrounding this place. To specify few they are Haralugodige, kaginolli, Ambalike, guddekoppa. This is a typical malnad region. The main occupation of the people in this region is agriculture. One can see arecanut farms around this place together with paddy fields ,Banana farm, cardamom, coconut farms.The families with more agricultural land are the prominent ones & they are the ones who enjoy both economical & political power. Vokkaliga community has the highest population followed by Brahmins & lingayath Community.
Basic amenities are good in this place. There are 2 government schools in the town which provides education for hundreds of students every year. Puttaiah Gowda (Haralugodige) , Krishnaiah Naik ,Gopal Naik are few notable among the many who had contributed a lot for the development of irrigation & other agricultural methods in this area.:-)
