The BlackBerry Bold 9000 is a line of smartphones developed by Research in Motion

The family includes the 9000 (released in 2008), the 9700 (released in 2009), the 9650 and 9780, both of which were released in 2010, 9788 released in 2011 and the 9900/9930, the first touchscreen Bold, released in August 2011. The Bold family is known for its distinctive form factor; efficient, piano-like QWERTY
keyboard, typical BlackBerry messaging capabilities with a distinct, more premium keyboard than the Curve series. The Bold series is usually more expensive and have more premium materials (ex. leather, soft touch, carbon fiber, metal) unlike the curve (plastic, glossy) and also have much better specs.

followed closely, releasing the phone exclusively online on June 3, 2010, followed by its retail stores on June 10, 2010. It was released in Canada the week of April 27, 2010.
Bold 9780 is a high-end mobile phone

and RIM announced a variant known as the Bold 9788. The 9788 variant is identical to the 9700 except that the 9788 uses a Chinese 3G standard known a TD-SCDMA

The Bold 9780 shares the same form factor as the 9700, and the only notable differences are an improved camera (3.2 MP vs. 5.0 MP) and double the onboard memory of the 9700 (256 MB vs. 512 MB). Both devices are OS 6.0 ready, with the 9780 being OS 6 enabled (already installed) plus the chrome around the old bold has disappeared.
Bold 9900/9930 (also known as Bold Touch) is a mobile phone

and is part of the 9000 device series. Introduced in August 2011, it is the first of the Bold line to provide a touchscreen. It is also equipped with BlackBerry OS 7, and marks a return to the form factor of the original 9000 and its popular wide-set physical keyboard. Technical issues
- On October 10, 2009, UK provider Orange suspended sales of the BlackBerry Bold due to undisclosed software issues.
- March 2, 2008, RIM says they had or still have an overheating problem with the Bold saying in some cases it became too hot to handle. This problem seems to have affected regions in and around Japan only. "BlackBerry Bold devices in other countries are unaffected by this matter."
- The Bold, the second 3G BlackBerry (first supporting US frequency bands), launched in the U.S. in November 2008, after several snags delayed its release. The Bold went through several revisions before its official launch to ensure it operated properly on AT&T's 3G network and to hammer out software issues.
