They hear a deep murmur in the bush and are frightened by its strangeness, however, they meet up with Wombo who is delighted to see the Blinky still alive. Nutsy tells him that Blinky has amnesia and wombat explains to him about the day he was born.
Blinky always gets up to mischief and always gets scolded by Mayor Pelican, his teacher, Miss Magpie, and his mother by his antics, as he once almost got captured by a female shop owner who tried to sell him to the zoo, but escaped with luck. His mother then scolds him and cries about the grief he is causing. her. Feeling very guilty about the trouble he caused, Blinky decides to find her. Wombo tells him about the camp and tells them to go there.
Blinky Bill and Nutsy make their way towards a riverbank where they meet up with a hearing impaired elderly koala who asks them after much persuasion to take her to the camp.
Blinky and Nusty meet up with Splodge the kangaroo and his family who tell them about what happened to Mrs Koala and why she didn't evacuate. Blinky and Nutsy make their way to the waiting line where Mayor Pelican is assigning all the woodlanders to their places. Blinky Bill introduces himself to the mayor who is less than pleased, and orders Nurse Angelina to take the children to the leaking North Cave.. Blinky asks her where his mother is, but Angelina hushes him to console him saying they will look for her in the morning.
As they are served lunch by a female lizard, Blinky asks for directions to the woodchip mill which is a long way from the camp. Later that night, Nutsy realizes that her friend isn't asleep. Blinky tells her about his plan to go back and find his mother at the mill, and Nutsy follows him as they make their way though a rampaging river and the woods. They finally make it to the camp and decide their way to get inside and rescue Blinky's mother. Unfortunately for Blinky and Nutsy, the wood chip mill is home to the woodcutter's family who is unknown to them. Blinky tries to get in by climbing over the fence only to alert a group of dogs.
Joan, the woodcutter's wife, hears something outside, but her husband, Harry, is too tired to care, as it is also home to a small blond-haired girl named Clara, who is Harry and Joan's daughter, and loves animals and is kind and sweet. When the dogs started causing commotion, Clara asks what was that noise but her father tells her to go back to bed.
Blinky tries again to get in by breaking the security light outside the farm, causing Joan to nag Harry out of bed to check it out. Grumbling, the woodcutter looks outside as the two koalas try to get in, he then sees and captures Blinky by the neck and Nutsy frees Blinky by gnawing on the woodcutter's foot. However, she is chased by the two guard dogs who force her to climb up the pipeline and disappear into Clara's room. Blinky tearfully goes back to the tell the others about the bad news. They decide to rescue Nutsy despite more guards on the patrol hour, as they work out a plan. The next morning Nusty clambers into Clara's bed whom she wakes up to find a real koala in her bed.
Marcia the marsupial mouse creeps into the kitchen to overhear Clara, introducing Nutsy to the family who takes less interest in her. Her father tells her that the koala needs to go back where it belongs, but Clara defends Nutsy by saying she is beautiful and that she is only a baby and that she'll die alone if released. Harry decides to take her to the zoo tomorrow. After a commotion at the kitchen table starts, the woodcutter's daughter takes Nutsy upstairs.
Marcia reveals the information she hears to the others, and they despite a rescue plan to take place that night, Joan tells Clara to turn the lights out. When Clara wishes her mom good night, she secretly gets out of bed to pick up Nusty who has taken a liking to her and takes her to bed with her, putting her original doll in the doll house.

The animals escape, and Blinky Bill and Harry fight off against each other. Blinky wins but Harry is left swimming for his life in a basket of liquid. Blinky goes to Clara's room and mistakes Nusty once again with her doll. He looks around the room and sees the toys, he activates come to life, before he bumps into the cupboard which covers Nutsy under a white sheet, but when he sees Nutsy, he hugs her and gets her outside as he hears a faint but familiar voice which he peans the ground door to reveal his mother who is alive and overjoyed to see her son.
