, people have been vanishing over the past 25 years. A college student (Annalisa Kyler) is abducted after experiencing car trouble. Her friends band together to form a search party. Leading the search party, are ex-baseball player Doug (Martin Seijo) and Vanessa (Carrie Grafton) who head out on a road trip to discover the truth. Tagging along with the group is the womanizing jerk Bruce (Michael T. Dunn) with fellow college students Yasmine (Kayte Giralt) and Stacy (Lauren Brown).
The group soon arrive at a small town in Sumter County
and quickly realize they are overmatched as the body count quickly increases. While in the small town, Doug becomes captivated by a local girl who runs the old hotel in which they are staying (Ilana Cohen). Bruce's reckless antics begin to attract the attention of the local law enforcement and the situation because highly unstable. The group decides to try to flee the town but it appears that their decision has come too late.
used throughout the film was inspired by the car used in the Steven Spielberg
movie Duel. The 1971 Plymouth in Duel features the same basic chassis, interior and front end—although Bloody 27 features a coupe (Duster) instead of Duels sedan (Valiant).
The movie makes several references to 1970s films and televison. The ending title sequence is edited to pay homage TV's The Dukes of Hazzard
while running blooper footage similar to the ending credits of Smokey and the Bandit
.
The original screenplay
was written much darker and more violent, but the producers decided to make the film lighter after re-watching the film Evil Dead. The character of Bruce (Michael Thomas Dunn) was a homage to actor Bruce Campbell

Production
Principal photography began on October 6, 2007, according to the Orlando Sentinel and the Hollywood Reporter. Filming was halted on November 4th, 2007 when independent filmmaker Michael Dunn was severely injured in an event unrelated to the film. The film did not resume production until late 2008 and principle photography didn't officially wrap until March 2009.Cast
