politician and a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives
representing District 52A, located in the northeastern part of the Twin Cities
metro area. The district includes the communities of Centerville
, Columbus, Forest Lake
, Hugo
, Lino Lakes
, Linwood and Scandia in Anoka
and Washington
counties.
Dettmer was elected in 2006 to the open seat vacated by Representative Ray Vandeveer
, who ran for higher office that year. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2010. A member of the Republican Party
, he focuses on the issues of education, health care reform, economic growth, transportation, and public safety in the legislature.
and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in 1973. He subsequently became a teacher in Forest Lake
at Forest Lake High School, where he taught physical education and coached wrestling until 2006.
