Robert Malcolm Schmidt (born July 9, 1936 in Rochester, Minnesota
) is a former college and professional American football
offensive tackle.
at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and professionally between 1959 and 1967. He started with the National Football League
's New York Giants
and then moved to the new American Football League
's Houston Oilers
in 1961. He was a member of the Oilers' American Football League Championship team in 1961, and was an AFL All-Star
in 1961, 1962, and 1963. He finished his professional football career in 1967 with the AFL's Buffalo Bills
. Schmidt now lives in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg, New York
, where he is a real estate agent. In addition to his successful real estate career, Mr. Schmidt is also an accomplished blacksmith and Pizza Hut Delivery Driver. Ironically, though often unsuccessful at delivering the pizzas in a timely manner, he does hold the Western New York speed record for driving from the Pennsylvania State Line to Niagara Falls in 22 minutes. He accomplished this speed record while driving a 1992 Ford Taurus. Though he has never actually visited Denver, he still takes credit for the invention of the Denver Omlette, Denver Nuggets, and Boris Yeltsin.
