Bobby Saxon

LTC Bobby Saxon is an Iraq War veteran and small business owner from Nicholson, Georgia. Bobby is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Georgia Army National Guard currently serving at the Pentagon as the Program Manager for the Enterprise Management Decision Support (EMDS) system. In addition to his 2005 deployment to Baghdad with the 3rd Infantry Division (United States), Bobby also represented the National Guard Bureau on three brief trips to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2004.

Bobby co-owns ABW Auto Insurance, a family owned property and casualty insurance agency, with his mother in Athens, GA. Bobby is also the owner of PC POWERUSER, a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and consulting company.

Bobby attends Bethany United Methodist Church, is a member of the American Legion Post 56 in Jefferson, GA and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2872 as well as the AMVETS post 10, both located in Athens, GA.

Education

Upon graduation from Oconee County High School in 1981, Bobby enrolled at North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU) in Dahlonega, Georgia

. Bobby's admission to NGCSU included entry in the ROTC Corp of Cadets and his introduction to life as a soldier. Bobby thrived in ROTC and was soon selected as the Outstanding Freshman Cadet (Frog of the Month) for November 1981. While a cadet at NGCSU, Bobby joined the Georgia Army National Guard

Bobby continued his ROTC training at GSU and served as the Marauder Company Commander during his senior year of ROTC. Bobby was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in March 1986. Bobby received his Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) in Management from Georgia Southern in 1987 and was named as a Distinguished Military Graduate.

Bobby is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer, Basic and Advanced courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3), and the CGSC Intermediate Level Education (ILE) course. Bobby is a 2009 graduate of the National Defense University

 Advanced Management Program (AMP) and was named the AFCEA Distinguished Graduate as well as awarded his federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) certificate upon graduation.

Politics

In August 2007, despite having no political experience, Bobby launched his 2008 campaign for U.S. Congress to represent Georgia's 10 Congressional District.

Bobby ran a spirited underdog campaign against incumbent Representative Paul Broun. Despite being outspent 10-1 by the incumbent, Bobby amassed 39.3% of the general election vote. Bobby attributed his success in conservative northeast Georgia to his local roots and his conservative views on gun control, family planning, and government limitation.

Military service

Bobby, along with his brother SGM (R) Mark Saxon, entered the Georgia Army National Guard in 1983. Bobby began his military career as a Private First Class with the 178th Military Police Company based in Monroe, GA. Bobby remained a member of the Georgia Guard for a little over four years while he completed college and his ROTC training. Bobby left the Georgia Guard and entered active duty Army service in June 1987 upon graduation from GSU. Bobby was then assigned a student at Fort Sill, OK where he completed the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course and the Multiple Launch Rocket Course (MLRS) Cadre Course in 1987. Bobby was then assigned to the 5th BN, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment (8") in Giessen Germany as a Platoon Fire Direction Officer (FDO) with Alpha Battery. Bobby later served as a Platoon Leader for 2nd Platoon before being assigned as the Battalion's FDO. Bobby left active Army service in October 1990 and began his post military career as a technology sales consultant.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Bobby voluntarily returned to active military service as a member of the Georgia Army National Guards 1st BN, 214th Field Artillery Regiment locatd in Elberton, GA.

Bobby was promoted to the rank of Major in 2004. Then Major Saxon served in brief assignments in Afghanistan as the Project Officer for JMARC for the National Guard Bureau. His home unit, the 3rd Infantry Division ROC, was mobilized to Iraq and there he served as the Battle Major for the 3rd Infantry Division in Baghdad. When his tour of duty in Iraq ended, Bobby was reassigned to the Army Operations Center located at the Pentagon, where he assisted the United States military’s effort to suppress terror worldwide. Currently, Lieutenant Colonel Saxon serves in dual military roles. First, at the Pentagon as the Program Manager for the Enterprise Management Decision Support (EMDS); and secondly as the Branch Chief for the IT Services and Support Branch for the Georgia Army National Guard CIO/G6 JFHQ.
