River. The town lies on the foot of the Bogenberg, a hill directly placed by the Danube. The church of pilgrimage Mariä Himmelfahrt http://www.kirchturm.net/kirchen/seit171.html on the Bogenberg is the destination of one of the oldest pilgrimages for Mary in Bavaria (first mentioned 1103). Since 1958 the German army
runs the Graf-Aswin-Kaserne in Bogen. The barracks, are home of pioneer forces and used for training medics.
Bogen is also home to Dr. Rudolf Bertagnoli's Pro Spine, who is known worldwide for his advances in spine surgery.
