Bonka is a Colombia

band. Soon after forming, the group won all the national awards of "Artist of the Year", as their five first songs were in the Top Ranking on local radio.
This success was a novelty in Colombia
, since this was the first time that a young band had gotten such high ranking with their first album. Their songs La Mona, El Problemón, Traga Maluca, La Visa and Tarde de abril are well-known among teenagers and young adults. Hoy has become a hymn for students who finish school, owing to the lyrics. Alejandro González (voice and guitar), Daniel Mora (bass), Felipe Harker (drums), Juan José Barake (percussion), and Nicolás Barake (guitar and chorus) began as an amateur band playing covers from artists like Diego Torres
and The Used
for several school events in Bogotá

In November, 2004, the band won an interscholastic competition, organized by Hard Rock Café, "88.9", El Redoblante and Shock Magazine. After this award, they were chosen to play in the Shock Awards in 2004 and 2005. As a result of the success, they decided to debut with their first single El Problemón, written by Alejandro González and produced by Nicolás Rodríguez.
From the beginning, they have played in more than 290 concerts and their first album has already won Platinum in Colombia.
Having won Shock Awards, Artist of the year from El Tiempo, and Best New Artist from RCN Radio, this band is now also popular throughout all Latin America, having recently played sold out shows in Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, and Mexico. The international edition of their album, Lo que nunca nos contamos, was produced by Sebastian Kris at the hit factory in Miami. 2010 was a great year for Bonka, as they were nominated for Premios Nuestra Tierra for Pop band of the year alongside Shakira and Juanes.They were also nominated for 2 Latin Grammy awards. They recently sold out El Estadio de Futbol in Bogota, Colombia with 80,000 attendees.
They have begun to make a major charge in the U.S markets, getting played on major radio stations and selling more than 200,000 albums in the beginning of 2011.
YouTube and the Facebook fan page are the favourite platform of their fans because they have not signed with a formal international record company. Their singles are already played at clubs and bars in many cities in the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, and Europe.

The band was formed in 2002. It was soon considered a Revelation Band among Bogotá schools.
