In the village there is a Co-operative supermarket, which is located amongst a number of shops including a butcher, a building society agency, an insurance brokers, an independent financial adviser, an estate agents, a pet shop, several hairdressers, a Post Office, library, florist, hardware shop and fishing tackle shop.

By way of food and drink there are four public houses, two Indian restaurants, three takeaways and a cafe.

. From Borrowash, Rainbow 4 offers a substantially shorter journey time to Nottingham of around 45 minutes compared to 1 hour and 5 minutes on Indigo. However tickets are interchangeable between the two services. Rainbow 4 will soon become i4, with buses designed espeiclaly for the route.

Whilst there is a plethora of bus routes in Borrowash there are no direct bus services to nearby Pride Park

) and the Derby Canal

with two locks. The station was built in 1839 and closed to passengers in 1966. The canal is currently being restored, with the work on one of the locks nearing completion. The area which the canal used to run through is currently a public footpath linking Borrowash and Spondon.

Route 6 on the National Cycle network also connects Borrowash to Derby via the riverside path, which runs along the route of the canal to Elvaston then parallel to this for the duration of the journey.
