Qualification
In the current format, twelve teams compete in the provincial tournament. The following teams qualify:- The defending champion automatically qualifies. If for whatever reason he does not enter the championship (as was the case with Kevin MartinKevin Martin (curler)Kevin Martin , nicknamed "The Old Bear" and "K-Mart", is a Canadian curler from Edmonton. He is a four-time Brier champion, has been to three Winter Olympics and is the gold medal winner in the 2010 Winter Olympics...
in 2010) the runner-up enters in his place; - The top Albertan team as determined by the Canadian Team Ranking System qualifies - if this team is the defending champion then the next ranked team qualifies;
- The two teams with the most Alberta Tour points not already qualified also qualify;
- The remaining eight spots are determined through the "traditional" route, that is, through zone and district playdowns. Two teams qualify from the Peace Country and three each from the Northern and Southern sections.
