The Brazilica Festival is the largest celebration of Brazilian culture
in the United Kingdom
that has been held annually in Liverpool
, England since July 2008.
Liverpool is home to the UK's second largest Latin American community and the Brazilica Festival was established during the city's reign as European Capital of Culture
, although it only became an independent event from the Liverpool Carnival Parade in 2011. The 2011 Festival took place between the 15th and 17th July and attracted close to 60,000 spectators despite bad weather. Carnival Day on the 15th included floats from 14 samba
schools, over 500 dancers as well as a Brazilian market. A number of local Latin American businesses, bars and restaurants participated in Brazilica, whilst a 'Zumbathon' also took place in the Hilton Liverpool
hotel.
