Brett Rogers
Encyclopedia
Brett Charles Rogers is an African-American
mixed martial artist
who fights in the heavyweight
division. Rogers has fought in EliteXC and Strikeforce
.
Rogers attended Harding High School in Saint Paul, MN.
Rogers was charged in early 2011 with 3rd degree assault on his wife.
A neighbor reported that he had looked out his residence window and saw Rogers standing over his wife, punching her multiple times in the head and face as she lay on the ground. Another neighbour stated he saw Rogers' wife with blood streaming from her face and mouth, and what looked like a missing tooth. The victim blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds. The couples' daughter had tried to intervene after she saw Rogers strike her mother. The case is set to go to trial on September 13th.
A neighbor of the Rogers family recently filed a restraining order against the ex-Strikeforce fighter and his family claiming that the fighter and his family regularly harass and frighten them because of the pending lawsuit against Brett Rogers The restraining order comes from an incident involving the Rogers family pet wherein the Rogers' dog allegedly bit a neighbors son. The harassment suit is being filed due to the Rogers family "purposefully" walking their dog by the house while yelling profanities from the street and their adjoining courtyard. Along with Brett Rogers, his wife Tiuana is also named. They are accused of shouting profanities and harassing the neighbors while their children are playing together. This has left the family afraid to leave their own yard. The restraining order served to Rogers and his wife Tiuana is valid until June 29, 2013.
post-fight press conference, Rogers called out internet sensation Kimbo Slice
, stating that Kimbo's match with James Thompson
was "garbage" and that Rogers believed Kimbo tapped to a guillotine choke in the first round. Kimbo Slice then stood up, telling Rogers "That sounds like a challenge, big dog." Rogers then barked back "It is. In the cage." Elite XC folded later that year, and a match between the two was never consummated.
by TKO after 22 seconds in the opening round. This victory launched Rogers to the top of the list of heavyweights in Strikeforce and he agreed to fight MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko
on CBS in Fedor vs Rogers on November 7. In the second round Fedor hit Rogers with a hard overhand right that dropped Rogers to the ground and John McCarthy quickly stopped the bout, breaking Brett's undefeated record with a KO loss.
Rogers was scheduled to face Alistair Overeem
on May 15, 2010 at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery
. After a great deal of discussions on whether or not the bout would be for Overeem's Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship, it was confirmed on March 29 that the title would indeed be on the line. On May 15, 2010, Rogers lost to Overeem via TKO (strikes) at 3:40 of round 1, landing only one punch in the entire fight according to CompuStrike. Rogers picked up another win against Ruben Villareal
by decision in the W-1 promotion.
Brett Rogers was defeated via one arm triangle choke submission by Josh Barnett
on June 18, 2011 at Strikeforce: Dallas as part of an eight man heavyweight tournament.
Rogers was released by Strikeforce following his domestic violence arrest.
