Brian Trench

Brian Trench is a writer and academic living in Dublin, who has been centrally involved in developing science communication and science-in-society studies in Ireland.
He is a senior lecturer at Dublin City University
, where he co-ordinates the Masters in Science Communication and pursues research interests that focus on science on the Internet, models of science communication, science journalism and public engagement with science. He has taken part in several EU-funded projects on science communication and he is a member of the scientific committee of the international PCST(Public Communication of Science and Technology) network. He was a member of the government advisory committee, Irish Council for Science Technology and Innovation, 1997-2003.
Before joining Dublin City University in 1992, Brian Trench was a journalist for 20 years, and worked for Hibernia magazine, Sunday Tribune

Brian Trench was a left-wing activist from 1969, when he joined the International Socialist in London. He was a leading member of the Socialist Workers' Movement in Dublin in the 1970s and joined the Socialist Labour Party
in 1977 with that group. After the collapse of the SLP he wrote for Gralton, an Irish Socialist magazine (1982–83).
