In 2005, Long was signed to Columbia Records
. His debut single, "It's Only Monday", was released but did not chart. However, "Anywhere but Here", his second single, peaked at #51 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs
charts. The song was later recorded by Chris Cagle
, whose version peaked at #52 on the same chart a year later. Long also issued a third single, entitled "Meat and Potato Man", although he never released an album and was eventually dropped from Columbia's roster.
