. There is also an English Department that provides service teaching and support for the faculties.

The University is developing an institutional research profile and a significant number of research-active staff have been engaged in academic positions. There are several centres dedicated to research, including The BUE Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP) and The Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM). BUE states that its vision is to be regarded as a leading University in Egypt and it aspires to be established as a world-class institution within the next 20 years.

Strategic Partnership & Degree Validation

In early 2006 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Loughborough University and the BUE to set the context and establish the platform for the development of a broad collaborative partnership between the two institutions, with collaboration envisaged in research, teaching and enterprise, underpinned by Loughborough University’s validation of BUE programmes. It was initially agreed that Loughborough would validate 16 degree programmes offered by the BUE, covering the areas of Engineering, Business Studies, Economics, Political Science, Informatics and Computer Sciences. A further collaborative agreement, to develop a Nursing Faculty validated by Queen Margaret University (QMU) in Edinburgh, followed as a result of an approach made to QMU by Dr. Akef Maghrabi - Chairman, Magrabi Group and Al Noor Magrabi Foundation.

Funding

Funding for the University has come from the efforts of a group of Egyptian Businessmen who are now the founders of the BUE. The university is mainly owned and financed by Mohamed Farid Khamis and Raed Hashem, two Egyptian businessmen, though significant recurrent income is also derived from student fees. The BUE shareholders and sponsors are leading Egyptian businessmen and companies of highly reputable business background and vast investments.

Campus Life

The British University in Egypt has many clubs and organisations.

• Society of Mechanical Engineers

The Society of Mechanical Engineers is a student society in the British University of Egypt, which was formed by a group of leading Mechanical Engineering students in 2009 with a vision of a rich student life filled with academic, entertainment and charity events. SME has grown over the years and now includes members from other Engineering departments. The Society continues to aim at the vision laid down by the founding members in 2009 by organising a full programme that enhances the university experience of students at the BUE.

• The Multicultural Club

The mission of this organisation is to develop cultural awareness and an understanding of foreign cultures within the environment of the university. It seeks to introduce student and staff members to different cultures from around the world, to build an environment where cultural diversity is highly valued and to familiarise international students with Egyptian culture in particular and wider Arab culture in general. The Club has organised many visits to places of cultural interest and talks regarding culture. It has also helped the University's activities department in organising official events on campus.

The Multicultural Club launched the first International Day in the history of the British University in Egypt. There was a large number of participating countries, diplomats, and distinguished guests. The participating countries were: Saudi Arabia, India, China, Turkey, Tajikstan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Italy, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Australia, and Spain.

• The Palestinian Club Is a society of students founded by the Palestinian students in the British University. The mission of this club is to spread awareness about Palestine and Palestinian culture.

• Make a Change

Make A Change club (MAC) is a society of active students at the British University in Egypt (BUE) who share a deep, wide, and open minded vision that aims to improve Egyptian society by leading and supporting human development and charity campaigns.
