BXF standardizes the communication of three basic types of data exchange defined by a set of SMPTE standards.

2. Content metadata
3. Content movement instructions
BXF provides many advantages to users, among them:
- A single method of exchanging data among systems such as Program Management, Traffic, Automation, and Content Distribution
- Support for file and message based (dynamic) data exchange

A brief summary of BXF
SMPTE's S22-10 Working Group, chaired by Chris Lennon of Harris Corporation, is responsible for the creation of BXF. The working group has enjoyed the active participation of representatives of over 70 organizations. SMPTE-2021 is expected to replace hundreds of proprietary batch and file-oriented interfaces currently in use.BXF provides many advantages to users, among them:
- A single method of exchanging data among systems such as Program Management, Traffic, Automation, and Content Distribution
- Support for file and message based (dynamic) data exchange
- Increased integration of related systems
- Extended metadata set for data exchange
BXF in use
Myers Information Systems, which has around 1500 clients, was the first to use BXF.The BXF standard is being used by more than 4,500 TV stations as well as broadcast and cable networks.Availability of Standards
SMPTE's top standards page has information, for the ordering of CD-ROMs, which would hold formal copy of the SMPTE standards. Judging by SMPTE's index, all of the standards, referenced above, would be contained on those CD-ROMs, as available from SMPTE.See also
