 were charged in connection with a scandal involving oilfield service company VECO attempting to buy government favors in Alaska. The ensuing investigation led to the widely publicized trial and conviction of Senator Ted Stevens. Weyrauch was charged with bribery, extortion, conspiracy and mail fraud. On October 15, 2007, he was convicted and sentenced to 5 years in prison. As of January 2009, his trial has been granted an indefinite stay while issues involved are re-examined by the U.S. Supreme Court.
