in 1963. He was deployed to Northern Ireland
and was mentioned in despatches for his service there in 1979 and appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his service there in 1990. He became Director of Infantry in 1993.
In 1994 Dutton became the last Commander of British Forces in Hong Kong
before the colony became a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
In retirement he became Director-General of the Leonard Cheshire Disability
care charity.
