The Burren College of Art is certified by the Department of Education in Ireland.

The graduate programmes (PhD, MFA and Post Bac) are accredited by the National University of Ireland, Galway, and BCA graduate students are full students of NUI Galway.

Undergraduate courses at Burren College of Art meet the requirements of the National Association of Schools or Art and Design (NASAD), of which the college is Non-Accreditated Institutional Affiliate. Students may receive 15-17 credit hours each semester.

Art schools and colleges in the U.S. accept undergraduate credit directly from Burren College of Art. Member schools of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD) have a consortium agreement with Burren College of Art facilitating easy transfer of students.

Studio courses

These courses provide opportunities for study at all levels associated with undergraduate study. Independent study is suited only to experienced and self-motivated students. It may be repeated to a maximum of 6 credits.

Drawing - BCADR 1 Drawing I
This is an introductory drawing course in which students discover the basic concepts within drawing, from both traditional and contemporary viewpoints. Through projects and assignments students are encouraged to investigate ways of representing the material world in both an analytical, representational and expressive manner. Students are introduced to an array of drawing materials and techniques and be expected to experiment with both.

Drawing - BCADR 2 Drawing II
This course is aimed at students who have successfully completed an introductory course. Through assignments and projects, students are encouraged to broaden their experimentation with materials and techniques. As well as developing traditional drawing skills, students are encouraged to investigate concepts in drawing within a contemporary context.

Drawing - BCADR 3 Drawing III
This is an advanced drawing course aimed at students who have successfully completed an intermediate drawing course. Students on this course should have a good working knowledge of traditional drawing skills and a willingness to experiment with both techniques and materials in a contemporary fashion. Students should be at the stage where they are starting to work in an independent and self-motivated fashion and generating their own ideas in conjunction with the tutor.

Drawing - BCADR 4 Drawing IV
This is an advanced drawing course aimed at students who have successfully completed Drawing III. Students on this course should be at an advanced level and capable of working in an independent and self-motivated fashion. They should have a good awareness of traditional and contemporary issues within drawing and their position relative to them.

Drawing - BCADR 5 Independent Study Drawing
This course is aimed at students of at least Junior Year standing who have a good working knowledge of drawing and can work in an independent and self-motivated fashion. Students propose a specific body of work which they intend to complete during the semester. The student meets regularly with the tutor to assess progress.

All courses are all supplemented with group critiques, slide lectures and discussions on relevant topics.
