Originally CFM only broadcast from their Caldbeck mast to Carlisle on 96.4 and Penrith, from on the top of Beacon Hill, on 102.5
In September 1995 they also started transmitting to West Cumbria from their transmitter at Broughton Moor

In 2005 media giant Emap
bought CFM and branded it as one of its Big City Network
of stations. In 2008 Emap was bought by Bauer, who have retained ownership of the station.
From its launch in 1993 until 7 April 2010, the station broadcast from premises adjacent to Border Television
's studios in Durranhill, Carlisle. Following the merger of ITV Border and ITV Tyne Tees in February 2009, both the CFM & Border TV buildings have now been demolished. CFM is now based at studios at Atlantic House in Kingstown, Carlisle.
Previously, CFM has won numerous industry awards including the Radio Academy's North West Station of the Year 2005 and Emap Station of the Year 2006.
