CITPO is staffed by members of the Armed Services' medical departments and a government civilian workforce, working together as a matrixed organization to meet project goals and objectives.

In support of that commitment, CITPO's mission is to acquire and maintain computer-based clinical information systems, which facilitate the provision of quality health services to all entitled to DoD health care by investing in our people and partnering with our employees, customers, contractors, and other organizations.

In May, 2008 CITPO was combined with the TMIP-J Program Office to form Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS)
