Encyclopedia
CPR Regeneration is an Urban Regeneration Company
set up to help redevelop Camborne
, Pool and Redruth
in Cornwall
, UK. It works with private and public sector organisations and undertakes a range of physical and business related work that seek to increase the quality of the built environment
and assist in supporting existing businesses and securing further employment opportunities for the area.
The company is one of 19 URCS that exist in the UK, designed to address problems in areas of severe industrial decline or with structural problems that prejudice the ability of the area to be economically sustainable. URCs are not designed to be a permanent feature of the area in which they work, and are created to tackle specific work projects.
The Camborne, Pool and Redruth area contains approx 10% of the total Cornish population, and a significant portion of the county's industrial activity. The area suffered from the decline of Copper
and Tin
mining (and related industries) and has struggled to recover. It parallels the position of South Yorkshire, which suffered from the decline of coal mining in the 1980s and also had the intervention of a URC, Renaissance South Yorkshire.
Again in line with normal URC practice, every project that CPR works on is undertaken with (or for) other public sector partners, such as Cornwall Council, the Homes and Communities Agency
, the South West of England Regional Development Agency or the Convergence fund of the EU.
