The Cabinet of Malawi is the executive branch of the government, made up of the President, Vice-President and Ministers and Deputy Ministers responsible for the different departments.
The current ruling party is the Democratic Progressive Party (Malawi)
. On 19 August 2011, President Bingu wa Mutharika
sacked his 42 member cabinet and took over all portfolios until further notice.
He announced a new trimmed down cabinet on September 7th, 2011 which was to be sworn in on September 8th,2011.
in 2014. He was moved from Education to Foreign Affairs.
Mutharika named his wife, Callista Mutharika, national coordinator for women and children's health.
He left the position of vice-presidents post held by Joyce Banda
even though constitutionally, he can not fire her and remains the vice-president.
Mutharika repeatedly refers to this cabinets as the "war cabinet" charged with "to jump and defend the integrity of nation"
