of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Alberta
. The first
, previously known as the Alberta Temple, was built in Cardston
in 1923. The Edmonton Alberta Temple
was opened in 1999.
LDS Church president Thomas S. Monson
announced the construction of the Calgary Alberta Temple on 4 October 2008 in the Saturday morning session of the 178th Semiannual General Conference
of the church. The temple will serve over 18,000 Latter-day Saints in Calgary
and surrounding areas.
The temple will be built on Church-owned land adjacent to the Royal Oak Chapel in northwest Calgary.
