The Calgary Mustangs were a Calgary, Alberta
, based USL A-League professional soccer team, that played in 2004. They were initially formed in 2001 as the Calgary Storm, and played one season in the USL Premier Development League
, before moving to the USL A-League in 2002.
Despite playing on artificial turf
at McMahon Stadium
(the only A-League team not to play on grass), the Mustangs had several acceptable seasons, and had relatively good fan support. However, at the end of 2004, the owners elected not to play in 2005 and the team subsequently folded.
In their final season the team's average attendance was just 674, which at the time was roughly equal to a team playing in the sixth tier of English professional soccer.
