The California Department of General Services (DGS) is a state government agency in the California State and Consumer Services Agency
of the executive branch of the government of California

. It provides a large number of services to other agencies in the government of California
, playing a role that is similar to that played by the General Services Administration

In 2004, DGS became part of the Governor's Green Building Initiative per Executive Order S-20-04 which calls for public buildings to be 20% more energy efficient by 2015.

Procurement
The Procurement Division serves as the purchasing function for many State agencies and departments and awards contracts on their behalf.It buys virtually everything the state government needs with the exception of:
- public works, construction or repairs;
- personal services, technical services, rentals or leases—with the exception of certain acquisitions.
Contracts and leases are mostly awarded by individual state agencies.
