California Winter League (2010)
Encyclopedia
The California Winter League is a developmental instructional league based out of Palm Springs, California
that is a showcase tryout opportunity for players hoping to get noticed by professional teams. It was founded on September 10, 2009, by Andrew Starke, owner of the Palm Springs Chill
(formerly of the Arizona Winter League
) and the Palm Springs Power
(collegiate wood bat team). It is a short-season instructional league which will play all games at Palm Springs Stadium
from January to February and features four teams set to play in 2010, the Palm Springs Chill, the Coachella Valley Snowbirds
, the Canada A's
and the Palm Desert Coyotes
. Starke will serves as the league president and chief operating officer and former Major Leaguer Darrell Evans
(manager of the Golden Baseball League
's Victoria Seals
) will serves as league commissioner. The CWL will not only provide perfect playing conditions, but each player will receive quality lodging and meals, and most importantly, the highest level of baseball instruction.
. The CHILL organization will now expand from one franchise to an entire league with four to six teams, helping even more current and future professional players prepare for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Many of the teams will be managed by former Major League players with all assistant coaches and instructors having professional playing and coaching experience. Instructors will represent several professional leagues across the nation. We also have instructors with ties to international playing opportunities in Europe, Asia, and Australia. These include our team managers, league instructors and guest speakers, who will constantly be educating and scouting each and every player.
The California Winter League is the best Independent Baseball Showcase Event in the United States on getting players signed to a Professional Organization.

History
After the great success shown by the Palm Springs CHILL in the Arizona Winter League during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Owner Andrew Starke decided to create the California Winter League to offer yet another outlet with great opportunity for aspiring players. Based out of Palm Springs, California, the league fielded four teams in 2010 and 2011, with some coached and managed by former MLB players. With the amount of players doubling from '10 to '11 and a larger increase expected, the CWL is expected to expand to eight teams in 2012, adding the Oregon Lumberjacks, the Alberta Huskies, the British Columbia Bombers and the Tokyo Dragons.Purpose
The purpose of this winter league is to expand on the huge success the Chill franchise has had over the past two seasons winning more games than any others in the highly successful Arizona Winter LeagueArizona Winter League
