. It was founded by the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
in 1969. The name is derived from Neringa, a municipality on the Baltic coast of Lithuania

The camp has a focus on Lithuanian heritage, and Christian values
. Children are taught words in Lithuanian
and Lithuanian songs including the Lithuanian allegiance.
Out of camp season the facilities are rented out to other groups.

The next year the Sisters organized a summer camp, called Immaculata for girls of Lithuanian descent on the convent ground in Putnam, CT. 26 years later in 1970 The Immaculata summer program relocated to its current location in Vermont. In 1996 Neringa incorporated and pursued 501(c)(3) status. The first Board of Directors was formed and a full time Executive Director was appointed.
