Campers were primarily from the New York City metropolitan era and most if not all were Jewish. In the 1950s, Ralph Lauren (then known as Ralph Lipschitz) was a camper and a counselor.

The Morse family was most definitely the most recognizable family at Roosevelt in the 1940's-1960's era. Uncle Tex hired Phil Morse
who was a school principal in NYC to be the new aggressive head counselor. "Uncle" Phil started out as head of the waterfront,
became friends with Ray "Chesty" Crets. Uncle Phil then devised an ingenious program of activities for the campers which proved
to be some of the best year's in Camp Roosevelt's wonderful history.
