Format
The format is identical to the 2007 edition. Twenty teams will compete, each team playing the other 19 once. At the first stage finale, the top four teams will qualify to the semifinals, with the bottom four clubs being relegated to Série A2. The best-four teams not qualified to the semifinals, and not from the city of São Paulo or is Santos FC, will compete in the Torneio do Interior.Standings
