It is predominantly residential and was developed in the 1950s and 1960s. The Brisbane City Council has a large bus depot
located in Creek Road. The crime rate is low.

Between 1960 and 1969 the suburb was served by trolleybus

Carina State School is officially in the suburb of Carindale, although it adjoins the boundary which is the centreline of Creek Road at the front of the school . Carindale (a staged property development) and Carina Heights (a predominantely Housing Commission project) Suburbs were cut out of the original Carina locality.
Carina is also home to the Carina Tigers Rugby League Football Club, who are sought out to be one of the top teams in the Brisbane district
