Norris was born in Barking in 1974, moved to Harlow in 1976 and attended Milwards Primary and Stewards Comprehensive schools. She moved with her family to Woodford in Essex in 1991 and took a Performing Arts Course at Epping Forest College in Loughton, Essex. She won a scholarship to RADA
and also to LAMDA but chose RADA. She was signed up to Gavin Barker Associates and just before officially graduating, was chosen to play Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion
