. The village is built up mainly of Victorian homes, with a more modern area. The village has its own school, Carmel school and still has managed to keep a couple of shops, one a general store (Siop Doris), which is run by Doris Jones, the nicest shopkeeper in the world and the other a Post House,was ran by Mr. Campbell who has recently retired on 4 July 2009 at the age of 88 years old, this shop is not the post office as this was closed down in the postal cuts. The village also contains a number of chapels, which are gradually closing down and some being converted into homes. There are a number of other businesses including a driving lesson school and a car garage. Nearby villages are Penygroes and Groeslon
