The third attempt successfully smashed the bottle but the force sent the flowing champagne all over her. She took the soaking in good spirits and announced "I am godmother to 13 godchildren and a god-dog - now I'm godmother to a great ship."

and was heading back to New York City. At 5:10 PM, the ship suddenly listed 14 degrees to the port side while making a hard starboard turn, resulting in some minor injuries. The crew came on to the intercom a few minutes later to announce to passengers that there had been a computer glitch. Crew members indicated that a list of that degree was without precedent in their experience. Passengers were not compensated for spilled drinks, etc.
On August 3, 2005, around 10 pm, heavy smoke was seen coming from the lower levels towards the bow of the ship. In minutes, there was an announcement for everyone to proceed to the upper, open decks. The Cruise Director

During the September 2, 2007 cruise, there was a complete loss of power for approximately an hour, during the first day at sea. Because of this, the ship arrived late at port the next day. The cause of this problem was not explained to the passengers.
On September 30, 2009, as the ship was leaving the berth in Cozumel, heavy winds pushed the ship against the side of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines . Carnival Legend sustained damage to its open deck areas, as well as broken glass. Both ships were able to leave for its next scheduled port after being cleared by port authorities.
On February 13, 2010, Carnival Legend had to reduce speed and limp home due to a mechanical problem that drastically reduced the ship's speed. Passengers reported hearing grinding noises and vibrations coming from the engine room. The ship made it back to its homeport of Tampa several hours late. The next voyage resulted in a late departure and a schedule change of Cozumel instead of Grand Cayman.
