In 2010-2011 NCDOT expanded the station with a larger waiting room, restrooms, and a staffed ticket sales window. Checked baggage service is available for the Carolinian and Piedmont trains, but not the Silver Star. Passengers without checked baggage may transfer at Cary between the Silver Star and either the Carolinian or Piedmont trains, but passengers desiring such a transfer with checked baggage must do so at the nearby Raleigh Amtrak station

The Cary station has about 130 free parking spaces, whereas the Raleigh station has insufficient parking. Passengers boarding trains at Cary, however, are subject to weather.
